Tape-Ins or LA Weave?

Two of the most popular extension methods we fit at Wigs & Warpaint in Sheffield are tape-in extensions and LA Weave. Both give beautiful length and thickness; they just suit different hair types and lifestyles. Here's how they compare.

Tape-In Extensions

Wefts of hair are "taped" either side of your own hair in thin, flat sandwiches. They're quick to apply, sit very flat and feel lightweight, which makes them comfortable and discreet, especially for finer hair. They're moved up every 6–8 weeks as your hair grows.

LA Weave

A row of micro-rings is threaded along the head and a weft is sewn onto them, with no heat or glue. LA Weave is hard-wearing and great for adding serious thickness and length, which suits medium to thick hair particularly well. It's also refitted as your hair grows.

How They Compare

  • Comfort: tape-ins sit flattest and feel lightest; LA Weave is very secure.
  • Best for: tape-ins suit fine to medium hair; LA Weave suits medium to thick hair.
  • Application: both are no-damage when fitted and removed properly; neither uses harsh heat bonds.
  • Upkeep: both need refitting as your hair grows, and good aftercare to last (see our extensions aftercare guide).

Which Is Right for You?
